Lewis Crathern

Lewis Crathern is 4x British Kitesurfing Champion, Pier jumping extraordinaire with Worthing and Brighton Palace Pier to date. Lewis is passionate about Kitesurfing and education about the environment through his work in Education.

Born by the sea in Worthing West Sussex (UK) it wasn’t until his early teens that Lewis first discovered Wind power through Windsurfing. The Kitesurfing boom then took off round the world and Lewis jumped straight onboard.

With a regular top 20 ranking on the World Tour Lewis has frequently been in the international spot light for kiteboarding. Over the last 2 years his 2 massive kiteboarding stunts put kitesurfing firmly on the map making news all round the world including BBC’s most read story + watched video and an ESPN homepage feature. 

As well as being a top competitor Lewis is always keen for a new challenge. The last few years have seen him relight the British Kitesurfing Championships as ‘Official Tour Commentator’, and more recently he has taken to the role of “Presenter” for various video productions.Through his passion for Kitesurfing Lewis is able to connect with a wide range of audiences from first schools/middle schools and high schools to Colleges and Universities.

More recently in March 2012 Lewis took 1st place in the 1st ever Redbull Lenten Megaloop Challenge event in Capetown South Africa. Riders came from all over the word to compete in a new discipline in kitesurfing where Lewis excelled in the strong winds.

“Kitesurfing is incredible sport to be involved in. I have found It is one of few things in life where people of all ages watch in amazement. Using the wind and feeling connected with the environment changes your life. It has become my passion to pass this on to people in one way or another. So far I have found it to be an amazing tool to educate young people about the environment, thinking eco and leading a healthy lifestyle.”

Lewis is also a top kitesurfing coach and is very enthusiastic about introducing people to Kitesurfing.

The Man that Touched the Sky:

The Man that Touched the Sky is a 30 minute film documentary with an in depth look at the pioneering kite jumping extraordinaire Lewis Crathern preparing for the biggest jump of his life over Brighton Pier, an exclusive look into Lewis’ life showing never seen before footage with him preparing for his infamous jump months before it happening. The documentary touches on the emotions, physical strength training, precision weather monitoring and pure skill to achieve such a dramatic result. Lewis’ pier jumping achievement created a frenzy of media reaching beyond the realms of Brighton to be a phenomenon of global explosion. The film documentary also explores why Lewis is searching for new challenges outside the competition circuit and how he uses kitesurfing and wind energy as a tool to teach others whilst increasing eco awarenes.
